What does AS 4422 Require of Playground Surfacing Products?
AS 4422 requires any playground surfacing product (where a fall height exists in excess of 50cm) to meet the following criterion:
- Tripping Hazard - None to be present.
- Abrasion Hazard - Surface to be free from sharp edged parts or hazardous projections.
- Toxicity Hazard - Shall not contain any component known to present a toxic hazard.
- Inhalation Hazard - Shall not contain any fine materials that could be inhaled.
- Loose fill materials - Must be installed to a minimum depth of 20cm where impact attenuation is required, with a further 20% depth required in heavy use areas.
- Impact Attenuation (Absorption) - Surface shall meet the requirements of the test specified at the measured fall height from the playground equipment.
